God Loves man when he obeys him by keeping his commandments and laws

...God commended His love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
God loves us whether we obey Him or not. His love is not conditional on what we do or don't do. Like an earthly mother who loves her son who is lost in sin, God is always yearning for the wanderer to return to Him. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ.
Does God love us more when we obey? I think He had infinite love for us when we were sinning as He paid an infinite price to redeem our souls. So I don't think He could love us anymore since His love was and is everlasting. I do think we have a closer relationship to God when we do obey though.
