Why did God create gold?

Gen2:11-12
The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

Do you think God designed that man should melt, forge, cut and hone gold and precious stones? What would be the purpose? surely not for self-aggrandisement or adornment as Adam and Eve were created in the meek and humble image of Christ. Maybe for buildings?

God uses gold for building. He will personally make a new Jerusalem with gold. I might be wrong but it seems to me to represent purity.

Revelation 21:18
“And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, l like unto clear glass.”

Revelation 21:21

“And the twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.”
