Paul said, "Follow me"

Is it not a strange thing for Paul to say?
1 Cor 4:16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me
The apostle Paul, writing to the Corinthians, sets forth the principle by which we should be governed. He says, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." 1 Corinthians 11:1. {PP 719.3}
I believe the Apostle Paul is telling us to follow his example
1 Cor 4:16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me

I think he wanted to be an example to the believers but with the aim to lead them to Christ:
1Cor. 11:1 "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ."
