It is said that the Masoretes (Copyists of the Scriptures in the Old Testament) used golden ink whenever they had to write the name YHWH in their copies as a symbol of reverence for the name of God.
The Jews consider these letters as sacred ones and and there is a number (maybe 14,15,or 16 - I don't remember exactly) that requires the use of these letters, but anytime time they have to use that number, they have to swap among alternative letters that will give the same result- number.
